City Of Culture Venue
Heats Up
For A Year of Celebrations!
Limavady based air
cool engineering (NI) Ltd, has successfully installed and commissioned a
major air conditioning, heating and ventilation system at Derry/Londonderry’s
freshest event’s venue.
Established since 1998 and led by Martin Mullan, air cool engineering (NI) Ltd operates across
Northern Ireland, UK mainland and Ireland .
With close associations with many major high street retailers,
independent restaurants, bars, hotels and surgeries, the Limavady based
business was delighted to be selected by ExtraSpace as the heating, cooling and
ventilation contractor for the City of Culture’s new events venue on the former
Ebrington Barracks site in Derry/Londonderry.
‘The Venue 2013’ is the City of Culture’s impressive site for
a range of special events such as music concerts, theatre productions and dance
performances, and hold audiences of up to 4,000. The main ‘tent’ structure and adjoining portable buildings
created a number of challenges for air
cool engineering (NI) Ltd. As the
main structure had to be sound-proofed, the auditorium’s framework had considerable
weight baring limitations. As such, there
were no opportunities for air cool
engineering (NI) Ltd to physically hang HVAC equipment from the structure. Likewise, the tarpaulin ‘skin’ of the
auditorium could not be pierced for services, limiting access to enter the venue
with HVAC ducting.
The main auditorium was served by four large Trane gas fired
packaged heat pump systems – providing both heating and cooling. The entrance foyer was fitted with six
Mitsubishi Electric ceiling suspended units, again, offering cooling and
heating in the reception space.
Martin Mullan, for air
cool engineering (NI) Ltd said: ‘air
cool engineering strives to deliver projects of all sizes on time and on
budget. We were delighted to work with the
City of Culture, to create Derry/Londonderry’s freshest events venue. The project offered many interesting and
exciting challenges for my business. Our trouble-shooting abilities and practical
capabilities were without a doubt, tested on this particular project. The finished product is testament to how, as
a business, we consistently solve problems with innovative and unique
solutions.’
